The 13th Lighthouse

And finally just in time for Christmas!  My newest book is out.  It's called The 13th Lighthouse. Here's a little blurb about the story:

Belle had been kept sheltered and protected her whole life, so when she finds her mother unexpectedly dead in their motel room, her world is turned upside down.  Belle and her mother, Karen, had always been very close.  Alone, with no one to help or advise her, she must make funeral arrangements and then plan the next step for the direction of her life.  While going through some papers and documents that her mother had always kept in a locked box, Belle discovers that her mother had been keeping secrets.

Upon a chance encounter with a handsome attorney, who fills her romantic idea of the man of her dreams, Belle begins to see that it's time to take control of her life and live it the way she would like, and not necessarily the way her mother planned.  But first she has promised herself she would fulfill her mother's dream to visit the lighthouses along the Lake Michigan shore.  As Belle travels the West Michigan shoreline, from Grand Haven heading north, she makes acquaintances along the way who will change the course of her life in surprising ways, and who open her eyes to the possibility of love.
If you're a Michigander, as I am, and you love lighthouses, or maybe you're just a lover of romances with happy endings, this book is for you.  It's now available on Kindle or in paperback.  It's also free for Kindle Unlimited customers.  Let me know if you like it.  And please leave a review at Amazon.com on the title page.  Jane O'

Author Confusion

Have you tried to find Jane O'Brien on Amazon by typing in only my name?  If you have, you might be surprised to find out there are other Jane O'Briens, which is very disappointing to me, and probably confusing for my readers.

When I first decided to publish my books, I checked online and with Amazon and found a few non-fiction books by authors with my name but one person used a middle initial and the other a middle name.  I thought that would be confusing to add my initial to the group, so I decided to leave it out.  A few months after my first book was available, I discovered another Jane O'Brien, a self-published author with about 10 books. That has caused quite a problem for me, and probably for her.

It seems the 'other' Jane O'Brien writes murder mysteries which is not my genre.  So either her readers or mine are sometimes purchasing the wrong book.  To this date, I have only published The White Pine Trilogy, which includes:
The Tangled Roots of Bent Pine Lodge
The Dunes & Don'ts Antiques Emporium
The Kindred Spirit Bed & Breakfast

My books will always be set in Michigan.

Soon I will be able to release The 13th Lighthouse.  You'll be able to find it by title but the easiest way to make sure you are reading my books is to always go through my author central page.  Use this link to be sure you have the 'right' Jane O'Brien: www.amazon.com/author/obrienjane

Thank you so much for your loyalty,  Jane O'

The 13th Lighthouse

I'm thrilled to tell you that my fourth book is completed.  I feel a little lost as the first edit is finished and it's now in the proofreading stage,  I'm holding my breath for reaction to this story which is the first stand alone book I've written.
Although it's also set in West Michigan as the three in The White Pine Trilogy are,  it's quite different. I don't want to give away too much, so let me just say, that like the others, it is a romance that involves family and mystery.
I'm also excited for you to see the final cover.  (The photo above is not it, but is just there to tease you.)  I have partnered up with a very talented photographer in West Michigan.  He takes the most beautiful pictures of our great state I have ever seen.  I believe that his photo alone will capture your imagination.
There's a lot to do yet, and I don't want to make any promises, but I'm hoping to release my new book sometime in late November or early December.   Come back soon for the big cover reveal.

Thank you for following,  Jane O'

Book Three in Paperback

I am finally able to announce that the paperback edition of the third book in The White Pine Trilogy is available. The Kindred Spirit Bed & Breakfast will tie all three books together in a way you have not yet imagined. This book is much longer than the other two and therefore you will see a price difference which has been determined by Amazon (even though they have not yet gotten around to changing the estimated page numbers of 160 to 368 actual pages.) If you are a 'real' book reader and have been waiting to complete my series, have at it! Let me know what you think by leaving a review at Amazon.

Thank you, Jane O'

Book 2 Goes for a Visit

The Dunes & Don'ts Antiques Emporium, #2 in The White Pine Trilogy went to Muskegon, Michigan to visit an actual dune.  It snuggled into the dune grass to hide from the strong wind that day.

How lucky I am to live near one of the greatest bodies of water on Earth, Lake Michigan.  Did you know that it is the only lake of the five Great Lakes to be totally surrounded by the United States?
Facts:
 1.  It's 22,384 square miles
 2.  It's 307 miles long
 3.  It's 923 feet deep at its deepest point
 4.  It is 118.1 miles wide (no, you cannot see Milwaukee from Muskegon)
Lake Michigan is bordered not only by Michigan, but also Indiana. Illinois, and Wisconsin.
 5.  It is sometimes referred to as The Third Coast of the United Stated, after the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
6.  The dunes found on its eastern shore is the largest freshwater dune system in the world.
7.  In several places the dunes rise several hundred feet above the surface of the Lake.
9. The water is clear and cold, usually between 55 and 80 degrees, but because of the westerly winds the water's surface is moved toward Michigan and the lake at the shoreline can be quite warm in the hot summer months.

And guess what else?  No Salt, No Sharks!  No that's something to brag about.

There, now you know a little about Michigan, and why I love to write about it.  Jane O

Book 3 of The White Pine Trilogy

At last, I have something new to tell you.  The third book of The White Pine Trilogy has just been released for Kindle. The paperback will be ready later this month.  It's called The Kindred Spirit Bed & Breakfast.  I'm so excited for you to read about a new location in Michigan and at the same time see how the three books tie together in this family tree saga.

You'll find new faces and a new location, but the romance is still sweet, and the mysteries of the past will be revealed once again.  I hope you like it.  My editors tell me it's the best of the three!  Jane O

The Tangled Roots Travels

Winter is over and now we're into those days that can't seem to make up their mind whether they want to be spring or not.  One day we had 70 degrees; then a few days later it snowed again -- in April!!!  But that's Michigan for you.

We're all anxious to get outside, work in the gardens and yard, and spend lazy evenings on the deck or around a campfire.  I've noticed even Book 1, The Tangled Roots of Bent Pine Lodge, was getting antsy, so we decided to have an outing.

The first place we visited was its namesake tree.  I thought you might want to share in the joy.

If you've already read the book, you will know the significance of these rocks.

Next, I'll have to take The Dunes & Don'ts Antiques Emporium out for a walk, too. Those two are always competing for my attention.
