I'm in Mourning

 

I'm in mourning. It happens every time I finish a book. Yes, I'm thrilled and over the moon for a few days. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, but soon after that, grief sets in. I mourn the loss of my people -- you know, the ones I created myself? I'm like a mother who sent her child to kindergarten for the first time. What are they doing without me to guide them along on their journey through life? Will they know what to do next? But then I remember -- there's an answer to my problem. I can take charge! I can write another book! I can make more people! And that's what I'm doing while A Double-Edged Sword is going through the proofreading and editing process by others. Writing the next one is the only thing that will ease my pain. You can also help ease my pain by reading my books and reviewing them. Aah. Thanks. That feels better. You guys are amazing!

It's Almost Here!

Almost Done

 Once I am done writing this post, I will begin to write the last words on my newest book.  I am always a little nervous to write the ending.  Will it be good enough?  Will the book hold your interest?  And worst of all will I miss the people I just spent months inventing?  In this case this is a series so the next book will bring them back to me in full force, which is why I write a lot of series.  I hate to lose my people. I actually go into a mourning period after my book is done.

So if I'm successful, and I am able to write a conclusion I'm satisfied with, the editing process and proofreading will begin soon.  Crossing fingers. Here's hoping for a September publication for Threatening Skye!

Spell Checkers

 I've been a little silent here lately, because we are working so hard to get Yesterday's Treasures just right for you. I have a wonderful group of beta readers who diligently go over every word I write, but it's never enough. I'm sure you've all found a mistake or two along the way. Please forgive me. When it is pointed out, I try to correct it immediately, but it may be too late for those of you who have already purchased one of my books.

I'm sure you're already familiar with spell checkers, but here is a cute explanation of how they work. It's the main reason why I can't rely on technology. So hang on. We're getting closer every day to publishing Book #10 in A Slip in Time.

Coming Soon

 I did a happy dance yesterday, because I finished Yesterday's Treasures, Book 10 in A Slip in Time. I'll take a day off so I can start with a fresh mind tomorrow, then I'll begin the arduous task of proofreading and editing, before the manuscript is sent off to my beta readers for more critiquing. But with any luck, this book might come to you earlier than I originally thought. Stay tuned. The Boys might need you!

Would You Time Travel?

 

Good News!! My newest book, Yesterday's Mercy, has moved to the publishing stage, which means I have to wait for the proof copy to arrive before I give final approval. In other words, we're getting there.

I enjoy this time travel genre so much that I sometimes wish I could do it myself. So I'm curious. If you were to time travel, where would you go? Would you visit an ancestor or someone famous? Who and why? I can't wait to see what you have to say.

Books of 2020

 I don't know how it happened, but Christmas is over and this week we'll be celebrating a new year. Looking back it was a year no one will ever forget. The year 2020 will forever be stuck in our minds and easily connect to events concerning our family, friends, and work.

I'm grateful to be healthy but I was also surprised when I noticed I had somehow managed to publish four books this year. I have done this once before, but one of them was a short novella. This time they were each full novels. I guess staying at home so much was good for my writing soul. So here are my four 2020 creations. Does that mean I can do it again? It doubt it, because it had a lot to do with the months of publication -- January, April, August, and December. The next book won't be out until spring, so I'm already at a disadvantage, but maybe I can bring you three more. We'll see. Stay tuned for a sneak peek of the new cover.

Book Four is Almost Here

There's been a slight change in the positioning of the words, but it's still the same cover for the next book in A Slip in Time, coming soon.  I am impatiently waiting for Amazon to deliver my proof copy, (it could be here on Saturday) which I will look over carefully and if everything is okay, I will give my approval. Then I hit the publish button and wait and wait and wait for it to go live.

Georgy and Jack Coming Soon

     The wait for Georgy and Jack is agonizing. There was a two day wait for approval, and then I had to send it back twice after proofreading it digitally for something minor (that was 24 -36 hours each), now I'm waiting again. The next step will be to order the paperback proof copy so I can hold it in my hands and make sure the cover looks good. That sometimes takes two weeks! If all is well there's another long wait until it shows up on Amazon. If not, more waiting!!! This could stretch the release into August now. I can be a very impatient person, so this part of the process is always the worst for me. But I promise, Book 4 is coming soon!

     The time is nearing for the newest book in The Unforgettables series, Ivy and Fox,  to be published.  The proof copy should arrive this week, and if I like what I see, I will agree to publish it immediately.  I am hoping to get it to you in time for Christmas to order either in paperback or Kindle. 
     In the meantime, since I am in such a holiday spirit, I'm working on a novella for next Christmas.  It will be difficult to shelve it for next year, but I think it's best rather than try to push it through for this year.

Publish Date Alert

Just a quick note to let you know that Maisy and Max should be available on the 11th of this month, if all goes well.  It may not be in Kindle on that date but the paperback will be available.  Kindle typically shows up a day or two later.  I'll keep you informed of any changes.  Thanks for following me.  You're going to love this one!

The Painted Duck Update

We have finally conquered the cover photo issues for The Painted Duck. This morning I ordered a proof copy which will be delivered sometime next week. If it looks good, I'll just click the approve button, and it will be available to you within 24 hours. So nervous. This is my fifth time through this, but I'm always so stressed. Maybe by the 100th book I can relax.

New Book Coming Soon

I'm excited to tell you that I just finished my fifth book!  Next, it goes to proofing and editing, (several times over) followed by cover design, and then I can finally submit it for publication.  I'm hoping for an early spring release date.  As soon as the cover design is ready I'll give you a sneak peek.  If you're very good, I'll let you read a sample chapter.

Author Confusion

 

     Have you tried to find Jane O'Brien on Amazon by typing in only my name?  If you have, you might be surprised to find out there are other Jane O'Briens, which is very disappointing to me, and probably confusing for my readers.

     When I first decided to publish my books, I checked online and with Amazon and found a few non-fiction books by authors with my name but one person used a middle initial and the other a middle name.  I thought that would be confusing to add my initial to the group, so I decided to leave it out.  A few months after my first book was available, I discovered another Jane O'Brien, a self-published author with about 10 books. That has caused quite a problem for me, and probably for her.

    It seems the 'other' Jane O'Brien writes murder mysteries which is not my genre.  So either her readers or mine are sometimes purchasing the wrong book.  To this date, I have only published The White Pine Trilogy, which includes:
The Tangled Roots of Bent Pine Lodge
The Dunes & Don'ts Antiques Emporium
The Kindred Spirit Bed & Breakfast

My books will always be set in Michigan.
